Domaine des Grottes - L'Antidote 0.0 %
French remedy
The Domaine des Grottes from the French wine-growing region of Beaujolais has been producing this sparkling aromatic drink since 2016. The base consists of full-bodied grape juice made from pure Gamay grapes and a selection of 15 different herbs. These are each obtained using specific extraction methods. Techniques such as cold extraction, hot extraction, decoction and distillation are used to preserve even subtle aromas such as thyme. After production, the blend is pasteurised and carbonated. The addition of organic apple juice rounds off the taste with a fine acidity.
L'Antidote, aka antitoxin, is a delicious, top refreshing and alcohol-free drink. This is a product in its own distinct flavor, which I would not call either a wine substitute or grape juice. A good residual sweetness and multi-layered aromas such as lemon balm, mint, citrus peel, sage and thyme make the drink special. The herbal notes remind me very much of white vermouth, complex and pleasantly tart. The acidity of the lemons and the already mentioned apples give the L`antidote additional freshness. The fine perlage lingers long in the glass and could almost be described as elegant. An exciting drink that works well as an aperitif, but can also be paired with a not too sweet dessert or cheese. The Domaine des Grottes has been working biodynamically since 2001, so it's also certain that the herbs used are free of pollutants. And last but not least, the packaging is very pleasing. The label with its sympathetic retro vibes and great attention to detail, as well as the real cork, make the small bottle an eye-catcher.
Cheers sober buddies!
