The Sunday Review: König & Krieger Alcohol-free Cuvée Rosé Mousseux
First Riesling then Rosé
I reviewed the Riesling from König & Krieger here some time ago. It is undoubtedly good. That's why the expectations for the Cuvée were high, perhaps too high.
Briefly about the packaging. It looks a bit out of place to me. The white capsule seems misplaced. White paint is susceptible to quirks and wrinkles of any kind. Unfortunately, the bottle as a whole loses its value. At least there is a real cork involved.
The manufacturer's website states "Our alcohol-free Cuvée Rosé Mousseux is convincing all along the line. Elegant perlage and fine fruity notes of red berry fruits and flowers are simply fun!" That's right, that's exactly what it is. No less, but unfortunately no more either.
After pouring, the Cuvée foams strongly. And quickly collapses. The perlage could be a little stronger and last a little longer.
The taste fills the palate with red berries and apple notes. Here, a little fine acidity would do the complexity good. Unfortunately, the finish also remains thin. If one can speak of such attributes in alcohol-free alternatives. But since I have already tasted some, I know that it is possible to give alcohol-free alternatives a direction or to surprise with an unexpected aroma.
Unfortunately, that's what's missing in this product. It joins the large range of fruity refreshments for adults. It is a little more than a simple fruit spritzer. But unfortunately, this one could not quite fulfil the high expectations of non-alcoholic sparkling wine alternatives.
